Speech CoachingLess “Um”More Clarity

Filler Word Detection

Fillers are normal. They happen when your brain is searching for the next sentence. The goal isn’t “no fillers”, it’s cleaner transitions and calmer pauses.

Common fillers we detect

You’ll see which words show up most often. Fixing the top 1–2 makes the biggest difference.

The #1 replacement

Replace a filler with a short pause. It sounds confident and gives you time to think.

Instead of: “Um, I think…”
Try: “(pause) My approach is…”

A clean, repeatable structure

  • - Start with a strong opening sentence (“My approach is…”)
  • - Give 2–3 concrete details (tools, scope, metrics)
  • - Close with impact (“Result was…”)

When your structure is clear, your brain searches less → fewer fillers.

FAQ

Is it bad if I use fillers?
No. Everyone does. We’re just helping you reduce the ones that make you sound unsure.
Why do fillers spike in interviews?
Pressure + thinking while speaking. A pause feels “long” to you but sounds normal to listeners.
Fast fix?
Replace the first filler of the answer with a pause. That alone usually reduces the rest.
