Pace & Clarity

The fastest way to sound confident is to slow down slightly and speak in shorter, clearer sentences. This page shows exactly what to do, and what to avoid.

What “good pace” sounds like

Not slow, controlled. The biggest issue is usually speeding up mid-answer when you’re thinking.

If you speak too fast
  • - Add a 0.5s pause after your first sentence
  • - Take a breath before details
  • - End with one clean closing sentence
If you sound low-energy
  • - Use a stronger opening (“I’d approach this by…”)
  • - Add one concrete detail (metric/tool)
  • - Avoid trailing off; finish the sentence

Clarity checklist

  • - One main idea per sentence
  • - Prefer specific words over vague ones
  • - Keep sentences under ~15–20 words
  • - Close with impact (“Result was…”)

A simple pattern that keeps you clear

1) “My approach is…”

2) “First…, second…, third…”

3) “The result is…”

This is the easiest way to reduce rambling and “thinking out loud”.

FAQ

Is pausing awkward?
No, it reads as confidence. Most people pause less than they should.
What’s the biggest clarity mistake?
Starting with background instead of the main point. Lead with the point, then add context.
Fastest win?
Shorter sentences + a stronger closing sentence.
